Government pressed on frozen pensions policy during Overseas Territories debate

Today, Lord Lancaster of Kimbolton and Baroness Bennett of Manor Castle questioned Lord Goldsmith of Richmond Park, Minister for Overseas Territories, Commonwealth, Energy, Climate and Environment, on the illogical frozen pensions policy which affects a number of Overseas British Territories.

Pensioners living in overseas territories that have an existing social security arrangement with the UK, such as Bermuda and Gibraltar, receive their fully uprated state pension, while others living, for instance, in the Falklands Islands, St Helena, the Caymans or Anguilla do not. Instead, they see their pension falling in value year on year.

    For goodness sake be fair to all as it’s unfair for certain countries to get updates and others not.
    Treat war veterans the same wherever they choose to live !
